Well it's been a couple of weeks since X and Y were officially released and I beat the Pokemon league on Sunday so I thought I'd do a review of the game and you can leave your thoughts below as well. Firstly, I just want to say how amazing this game is graphically. X and Y jumped a couple of generations of progress in the graphics and the games really do look beautiful. The enhanced graphics also allowed for a feature that we have asked for, for a long time: Character customisation. Now that the people aren't a head and some blobs for feet, we can see our entire character properly and it gives the game a much more realistic feel to it. With different clothes, skin tones and hair styles, your character will be showing your own design rather than everyone having exactly the same design. Whilst still talking about graphics, some people have said that they have found manoeuvrability in Lumiose city difficult because of the camera. I had no such problem and I found Lumiose city to be fantastic.
New features such as Pokemon Amie and Super Training were introduced and they were both great. Whilst Super Training does get boring, it's certainly more fun than grinding for EVs and it also made EVs visible to players so even if you didn't want to do the training, you could still see what your Pokemon's strengths were. This has probably made making a good team for competitive battling a lot easier but I've never done competitive battling on the actual games so I don't really know. Pokemon Amie was just great to use. To see my favourite Pokemon smiling at me and playing with me and eating the food I was feeding him just gave me a great feeling of pleasure and I loved it. It can also be used to make your Pokemon stronger or evolve some Pokemon so it can be used for things other than enjoyment. The PSS was also good but it did have annoying pop-ups a lot so it was never my main screen like it was supposed to be.
People have been saying that these games were too easy but i disagree. These are difficult, long games that they put things in to make easier. For example, the EXP share which was given a huge boost to make leveling much easier when it was really quite difficult to level up your Pokemon quickly. I often found that I was well below the next gym so I had to turn the EXP share on to not be severely under leveled. The features can make the games easier but only if you dedicate your time to them as they are lengthy processes to actually get sufficient raises.
The story was pretty good, I liked AZ's back story and I liked how there seemed to be a history to the region which is involved in the story line. However, I did feel that Team Flare should've done things that actually lead to their final plan of the ultimate weapon because every other time they show up, it is completely unrelated to the ultimate weapon. Also, i felt that there should've been more of a gap between Lysandre Labs and Team Flare HQ as it meant battling Lysandre 3 times in very quick succession and it made the story seemed packed into one slot which was between the 7th and 8th gym.
What I liked most about the games was Kalos though. Kalos seems like an actual place, every town/city has their own house design, there are lots of towns that don't have gyms (I think that only cities have gyms) which I thought was great because it meant that I wasn't constantly thinking of the next gym and it didn't feel as if the region was all about the gyms. It was so much better than Unova which was awful, Kalos feels like each town is connected, like a real place.
Overall, X and Y were amazing games and were a great leap into 3DS games for the main games. I'm looking forward to see how the next game will improve as they probably don't have to make an animated 3D model for 719 Pokemon so the story aspects of the next game will be better and we can expect more options for our characters when customising them. Feel free to leave your thoughts below and please tell me if I've missed anything.
