If you hadn't notice over the years, all Disney care about was the shows that they created. They sell good money on buying out other companies, and they only do about one big thing with the characters then BAMP. The characters are gone, and make some appearences once every several years when nobody knows who they are.
Examples of what I mean - Winnie the Pooh (They randomly decided in 2011 to bring it back for one movie then completely forgot it again.) - Muppets (They own the Muppets for YEARS and only made one movie of the Muppets.) *Most likely Star Wars will be joining that list in several years.*
I get that they like to do stuff with the "original" Disney's characters, but why just treat the classic non Disney characters just like shit?

I don't think Star Wars will be treated the same way, since it has a HUGE fanbase. Disney can milk SO much money from that franchise alone. Unless they pull a "Capcom"....

So did Muppets, and they still only did one big thing with them. Disney did say that they are making three new Star Wars movies, but I am sure after that Star Wars will just be dead. Disney most likely only bought them because they want to get Star Wars out of the picture, since Star Wars is pretty popular it used to rival against Disney.

How did Star Wars "rival" against Disney? The two are uncompareable and were targeted at different fanbases.

They weren't exactly "rivals" (I should of used a better word there), I am sure over the years that Disney wanted to buy LucasFlims so they can get more attention for their shows. Plus Disney also know that they can get more money by making Disney's Star War toys. (Like making a Mickey Mouse Star Wars' toy.)

I'm almost positive that Mickey Mouse Star Wars toys have existed since way before they bought out LucasFilms. Either way, when you really think about it, Disney hardly does anything with their own creations as well. I mean, the first Toy Story came out in 1995. (Most likely) due to the interest in the first one, they made a sequel 4 years later. Then, interest died down for a bit, then over TEN YEARS later, they make the third one when they realized that people actually want to watch it (and that they'd make a shit ton of money from it). After all, Disney is technically a business and they just put out what people want to see.
In response to what you mentioned about the Muppets in the original post, Disney actually worked on quite a few of the Muppets movies before they officially bought it in 2004. They made one movie in 2010 (6 years after buying it) and they're working on one that's supposed to be released in 2014 (4 years after the first one). So, when you compare that to the Toy Story release timeline, it's not that much different.
Plus, most Disney movies don't need sequels and they're only released because the public demands more (and typically, they aren't as good as the original anyway). I mean seriously, how much do you remember of the second Lion King movie...? So, you they don't necessarily kill off franchises. They set it up so they can legally get profits from the original materials (intellectual property and all that stuff) and don't bother making unnecessary sequels.
Everything I said in the last paragraph will also apply to Star Wars. Yes, it's good that they agreed to make three more, but are they really going to be necessary sequels (I mean, episodes I, II, and III were incredibly sub par and only succeeded in making money). After the three movies, there's NOT going to be a need for sequels. The main reason they're making them is to get people's interest in the new Disney run Star Wars and then they can profit off the movie and merchandise.
So... yeah. That's my argument against your claim.

Wow I didn't really think about some of this the way that you did. Although, Toy Story did somewhat had a reason to be delayed that long because of Disney fight with Pixel so they had to buy Pixel to even been able to create a third movie.
