I am sure you know about the shooting in Connecticut, I do have another thread for the shooting. The elementary school wants to sue the state for the shooting.
My opinion: It is very very very wrong what about to the elementary school, but you can't take it out on the state. The state did NOTHING wrong! It is that one guy, you can't take it out on the state and the people of Connecticut's money because somebody stupid did something REALLY wrong. It is bad that happened to the school, but they can't take it out on the state. I highly doubt the state did anything wrong to that school, it isn't like the state hired that guy to do that. Because that wouldn't make any sense at all.

I agree with your opinion, to the bad of a man the people shouldn't get punished. A common mistake people do is blame the government when it was one men's fault. However this doesn't mean the state shoudln't help the school, i agree it isn't a reason to sue but it does require in the minimun the state's support to that school and/or parents of dead child.

wolf: I agree with you dude. @torterraterra: I believe it is actually true, people always tried to target out the government for these kinds of things.

If the school decides to actually sue the state of Connecticut for something one autistic person did, then that's just sad. Suing a whole state...Little drastic, eh?

It is more than just a little drastic. Suing a whole state for what one guy did, it is just madness.

Well, technically they'd be suing the government of that state, but I guess they're able to do that (assuming the school was a public school). Either way, you can't really expect them to win in the lawsuit anyway unless it's on legitimate grounds.

They are technically suing the government of the state, but it would still affect everybody in the state since the money the government would give the school comes out of the people's pocket. They probably won't win that kind of lawsuit, but who know sometime stupid thing happen. Like how Casey Anthony got off the hook for killing her only child, everybody knows she did it but she still won the trial.

Well, you can't say everyone knows unless they come up with actual proof. People are often mislead into believing the guilt of anyone in a trial that's widely publicized. Either way, guilty people get what's coming to them one way or another.
I looked it up, the lawsuit is on the grounds that a survivor was traumatized by the gunshots and that there weren't proper emergency response plans. It's actually one of the students (or the parents) that are suing. Since it seems to be a public school, the school suing the state would get nowhere.
It's a reasonable claim, but I don't really see that case actually going to trial. (They're suing for $100M).
