My favorite rival is Silver. (Silver is the Manga's name for the 2nd Gen. rival.) The reason why he is my favorite rival is because unlike most of the rivals he is not your friend. He is a criminal and stole his starter Pokemon from Professor Elm. I also like how he is Giovanni's son. This is really interesting, because none of the other rivals have a father who is a villain in the game.

My favorite rival is definitely Blue/Gary, simply due to the fact that he was a massive douchebag, so you felt a huge sense of satisfaction when you mopped the floor with him.

I'm stuck between the two already mentioned(Silver and blue).

Silver, by a very wide margin too. He's cool and actually comes off as a threat, and he's the only rival who goes through any sort of deep character development.
Blue was nothing more than that douchebag who was always one step ahead of you despite the fact that you easily kicked his ass every time you encountered him. He came across as childish at best.
May/Brendan was that annoying thing that showed up periodically to arbitrarily block your progress and nothing more.
What's his face from worst gen was unmemorable and was a slightly more threatening version of May.
I don't even remember who you're rival from Gen V was... whoever it was is extremely forgettable.
Gen VI was just a group of idiots who kept randomly showing up, and the one that actually posed a threat appeared to be more emotionally invested in you winning than anything else. It's like the group of sidekicks that no one wanted.
So... Silver wins. By a lot. Not like he had much competition anyway.

Black 2 and White 2: Hugh (Default name) What his face name is Barry/Pearl. (4th gen rival)

I really liked Blue because as a kid his douchiness really made me want to beat him. When I first saw he was the league champion I flipped my shit.
Silver is awesome just for the fact that he kicks you in the balls when you first see him. Literally. Okay, it's ambiguous where he hits you lol, but that's how I always interpreted it. =p He's also got more of an "enemy" feel as opposed to Blue's "douchey overconfident friend" type feel, and he has really cool music unlike Blue who (except for the final battle) just had regular trainer battle music.
I liked May but that's probably just because Gen III was my favorite. She kind of came across as a snarky and irritating, like the way girls who secretly dislike each other will talk lol. Not to mention you never even get to see her starter in its final form, and she's pretty much irrelevant for like the entire final half/third of the game. I don't even think you can rematch her. But she also has awesome battle music.
Spazoid from Gen IV was really a nuisance than anything else. Did not care for him at all.
Bianca and Cheren were too friendly IMO. Although, I liked them better than the Gen VI friend-rivals.
Hugh was cool, as they actually tried to give him a backstory for character development. It felt a bit one-dimensional, but at least they tried for once. (I don't count Silver really, as iirc you don't find out anything about his backstory until HG/SS and even then it's more of a side thing. Hugh's backstory basically engulfs all of his screen time)
Serena was meh. In fact, all of your friends in that game felt really weird. Like they were too agreeable or something. It was especially funny (and strange) how all of your friends' character models would look super upset after you beat them, but then they would say things like "That's okay! I'm just happy to get to battle you!" I think that was part of the charm of Silver, he REALLY wanted to beat you and he REALLY didn't like you. None of this "haha we're just having some fun" stuff they started doing since Gen III.
So yeah. I'd say favorite was Silver, then after that Hugh and Blue.

Silver by default. The others rivals want to beat you and then later on decide to do something else like support you or have an interest in something related to pokemon because of their journey with you (not the case with Blue or May, probably). I believe GameFreak should make a good rival (not criminal) like a shadow of you, who want the same thing more than anything and has no handicaps, making their battles change from: "Not you again, what do you want?" to "This guy is going to be a pain but worthy to battle".

Barry. I love naming him dick so when his mother comes to your house she asks "Have you seen my little dick?" I know very immature, but still funny as hell.

Silver is my favorite rival, as well as my all time favorite Pokemon character. I love him because he shows character development. I love how his Golbat evolves into Crobat so you know he learned to love his Pokemon, and he starts to address you by name and speak to you more respectfully. I love him!

I'm on the Silver train, but I also consider Eusine a pseudo-rival, whom I also really like.
