This is probably the worst thread ever placed, and maybe the pointless one. But still I wanted a personal opinion and Information about the Friend Safari in Pokemon XY. I know muffing (muffing=nothing) about the Friend Safari, what it does, what is it, how does it works, which whom, pkmns etc. And before you post any foolish comment saying: "You can search it on Bulbapedia" Note that I want a personal opinion and understandable. I know that you can get the hidden ability in certain pokemons, but does it change the ability of your pokemon or do I have to get a horrible Pokemon of someone else with the ability, breed and hope to get the nature and IV's? I recently started Pokemon X and wanted to know before I challenge the Elite 4. That's why I know nothing Any Information is useful, Thank you.

OK, so basically the friend safari gives you many benefits.
1. You get up to 3 Pokemon per Friend Code 2. The Pokemon in the safari have a chance to have their hidden ability (but still get regular ones as well) 3. Pokemon in the friend safari are GUARANTEED to have at least 2 perfect iv's 4. You have an increased chance to find shiny Pokemon in the safari
More on the Friend Codes part:
- By registering a friend code and having the person register you as well, you will get 2 of their Pokemon in their safari - Each Safari has it's own type, and all pokemon in a safari will share one type - You can get a third pokemon to show up if the person with a registered friend code is online (IN GAME) when you are and has beaten the elite 4
I'd be willing to answer any further questions as well.

Ok, - but what do you mean by own type of Safari? - Is it some sort of Minigame to get the Benefits? - The 3 pokemons, do I choose them or your friend selects them? - Where and How do I start?

In the best explanation I can think of, think of the friend safari as a square patch of grass,(Missing two in the entrance) in that patch of grass 3 pokemon have chance of appearing.(The ones of the type of the friend safari) One does not choose his safari type it is randomly decided.(it has to do with the friend code but i don't get it) It is as if you were walking in any other normal patch of grass waiting for the pokemon to appear, their ability, IVs and gender are random like any other wild pokemon.(Except as mentioned by steel, they have 2 perfect IVs and a chance of hidden ability) And to start in Kiloude(?) city in the upper right corner there is the entrance to the friend safari however you must first beat the Elite 4.
Most of the above has bad grammar and punctuation so could steel please correct most mistakes(First time I am letting a grammar nazi have a chance of correcting someone) so the idea is more understandable?

Basically, the "friend safari" is an outdoors room, with a huge patch of grass. There is only one "safari" area, but the pokemon that appear in this grass are different depending on the friend you choose before entering the safari area. You will go into a building, a woman asks you what friend's safari you want to go on, and you choose. Whichever friend you choose sets the pokemon that appear in the grass. Each person's friend code somehow corresponds to a particular pokemon type (fire, ghost, etc.) and 3 specific pokemon of that type (e.g., for a fire type, Braixen, Magmar, and Larvesta).
Nobody gets to set their own friend safari type or pokemon, it's all done by the game somehow based on our friend codes. So I have Ghost with Lampent, Phantump, and Spiritomb in my friend safari, which means if you choose me from the woman then you can catch those pokemon in the tall grass area.

Allright, but the pokemons are: Random, friend has to have it then is random, selective? That's the only part I don't have clear. What is the % of having the hidden ability, if it can be calculated? I can only enter on the Safari's that I have registered on my 3DS? Imagine I get to the Safari of my friend. Let's say Grass type. I'll find only 3 grass-type pokemons and then they'll tell me to leave? After that, can I enter the day after to the same Safari? If so, will it have different grass-type pokemons other than the first 3 random ones? This works with all the pokemons? or only with some few of them? Are they listed? The hidden ability = DreamWorld ability? If I poke-transfer any pokemon with the DreamWorld ability to XY, will it have the Hidden Ability? Thank you for answering, I must confess I really want Protean Greninja. LOL

Allright, but the pokemons are: Random, friend has to have it then is random, selective? That's the only part I don't have clear. The pokemon in the safari when you pick a friend are static, never changing. But what they are is determined by your friend's friend code. So it's not actually random, and it doesn't matter if your friend has the pokemon themselves. The only reason it's "your friend's safari" is because it uses their friend code. If your friend got a new DS with a new friend code, THEN the pokemon (and the type) would change. What is the % of having the hidden ability, if it can be calculated? You have to be online and playing with the particular friend at the same time at least once, which will make their face show up in the safari instead of just a "?" in a black outline. Once you do that one time and their face appears, you can go to their safari at any time, even when they are offline, and the pokemon you find will have a certain chance of having their hidden ability. I don't know the exact percentage but I'd imagine it's just an equal chance to have the hidden ability as it is to have any normal ability. I can only enter on the Safari's that I have registered on my 3DS? Yes, the friends have to be registered in your 3DS. Imagine I get to the Safari of my friend. Let's say Grass type. I'll find only 3 grass-type pokemons and then they'll tell me to leave? After that, can I enter the day after to the same Safari? If so, will it have different grass-type pokemons other than the first 3 random ones? No, your friend's safari will have three species of grass pokemon, which will show up unlimited times. So if it's grass, and their safari has Ivysaur, Oddish, and Gogoat, you can find infinite of all those pokemon until you're done. Then you just leave on your own. This works with all the pokemons? or only with some few of them? Are they listed? Yeah, there's a list of pokemon that show up in the safari. It's a bit confusing how it works at first, but basically for each type there are three "slots", and what pokemon species goes in that slot is determined by the friend code. Specific pokemon will show up in slot 1, other specific pokemon will show up in slot 2, and other specific pokemon will show up in slot 3. So for example, with grass: Slot 1 can be Oddish, Tangela, Sunkern, or Pansage. Slot 2 can be Ivysaur, Swadloon, Petilil, or Sawsbuck. Slot 3 can be Maractus, Quilladin, or Gogoat. So based on your friend's friend code, the game will select one from each of those slots, and those species will ALWAYS show up, EVERY time you enter that friend's safari. Note that unless you've been playing pokemon and connected to the internet at the same time as your friend at least once, nothing from the third slot will show up, ever, not even with a normal (non-hidden) ability. For example, my safari is ghost type. The possibilities are: Slot 1 can be Shuppet or Lampent. Slot 2 can be Phantump or Pumpkaboo. Slot 3 can be Dusclops, Drifblim, Spiritomb or Golurk. Based on my friend code, my safari will ALWAYS have Lampent, Phantump, and Spiritomb. But you won't get Spiritomb or any of those pokemon's hidden abilities unless we have been playing pokemon while connected to the internet at the same time at least once. The hidden ability = DreamWorld ability? Sort of. Both Dream World ability and Hidden Ability just mean "the ability you can get by catching or breeding the pokemon normally." Also, some hidden/dream world abilities were changed, for example Chandelure can no longer have Shadow Tag, it gets Infiltrator as its hidden ability now instead. If I poke-transfer any pokemon with the DreamWorld ability to XY, will it have the Hidden Ability? I'm not actually sure...I think it would. So transferring a shadow tag Chandelure would probably change it to Infiltrator, but I'm not 100% sure. Thank you for answering, I must confess I really want Protean Greninja. LOL Just find someone with a water safari and they might have hidden ability Frogadiers

Thanks SoulRed, that helped a lot. But I only have 2 more questions. 1. Can I enter my own safari? 2. Who has Protean Froakies (whatever it is)!?

No. You are unable to enter your own safari for reasons I do not know. And I think on this site Flare does. Edit: wait he has, Not froakis, but the second stage evolution.
