I started to like Pokemon a year after the original two game came out, although back then I was only into the cards, the toys, and the anime. Then in 2000 I got a Gameboy Color and then Christmas that year I finally got my first Pokemon game: Pokemon Gold.

I started off with Pokemon Blue, and I've been hooked ever since.

Even though I was born in mid 1990s and watched the Pokemon show ever since it started, I started off with Pokemon Ruby because my dad got me a ps2 (which I didn't like as a 8 or so, year old) and I didn't know that Pokemon games existed. I played that game until my Gameboy Advance and SP no longer worked \o/ and it's by this day, still my favorite pokemon game.

Started in Gen II with Silver. I was like 8 and I saw a commercial for it that looked pretty kewl and asked for it on a whim having never heard of or cared about Pokemon ever before. Guess my 8 year old instincts were pretty good

Officially, I started with Pokemon Blue, then Silver. Got really hooked into the series in Gen II. Unfortunately, I lost interest during Gen III, but rekindled my interest in the series with Gen IV - ironic that $40 nabbed me Pokemon Diamond and a Nintendo DS. Even went back to play/familiarize myself with Gen III. Just waiting on what Gen VI has in store now later this year

I started with either Red or Yellow when I was about four or five (not sure which one but I remember having both). Pokemon was my childhood along with batman and Goldeneye.
