Hopefully they give it defensive boosts it can use! (and keep Prankster!)

Not gonna lie, that's a pretty lazy design XD And as if Sableye wasn't cancerous before...

I hope that ability is something completely new, something like a substitute that will take a certain amount of damage for Sableye. I do have to say that if they don't do something like this I'll have to agree with Zero and say that's a pretty lazy design.

The Pokémon Company International has just uploaded a new trailer that features a brand new Mega Evolution, Mega Sableye has been revealed at the Nintendo's Kids Conference at E3 today in Los Angeles. It is said that Mega Sableye uses the jewel as a powerful defensive tool in battle. From behind the shelter of the jewel, it can readily exploit the opponent’s weaknesses and take advantage of any openings. It is said that the jewel hardens into such strength that no attack can even make a scratch! Time to discuss or Spooky friend. Mawhile and sableye share the same base stats of 380, they are also versions exclusive, in case you forgot. When Mega mawhile recieved an evolution it gained massive stat boosts to attack and defense but it still wasn't the best so gamefreak slapped Pure power on to it. This can also be the case with our friend sableye but with a little twist instead of Huge power that boosts attack it may get Huge defense or something boosting it's defense further, but it will most likely keep prankster which is also a great ability. Here we see How Sableye stats Can be distributed.

Actually, reading GF's description of it, it sounds like it will get some new defensive ability. Some people are thinking it's gonna be like Stance Change, personally I think it's gonna be something like Wonder Guard but less OP. Maybe something that shields it from contact moves, or maybe even a fur coat-like ability that just straight up weakens a certain type of attack. I'm really curious now and I hope Coro Coro leaks more about it. Sableye's role could change completely!

Well then if they do make an ability that doubles your defense, hopefully they come up with a better name than Huge Defense lol.

So Mega Sableye is confirmed to have Magic Bounce. Definitely not what I was expecting. What niche could this thing possibly have over our current Magic Bounce pokemon? Xatu covers the defensive bouncing, M-Absol covers the offensive bouncing, and Espeon covers the middle ground. Perhaps M-Sableye will have enough bulk to let it still tank hits and recover, but status-ing and stalling out with priority recover was its main niche. (as well as Prankster taunt) I have to say, so far I've been mostly disappointed with GF's choice in Mega abilities for this gen. Well...I guess they've only revealed 3 new megas, but I'm disappointed with 2 of them so that's still a majority, lol.

Now that it's lost Prankster, this mega-evolution won't be used nearly as much in competitive. That's just my prediction.

They could give extra 35 to it's base 65 SPdef to make it base 100 and the rest into def making it bas 190. And It can't get statused. I think it will still do ok. We can't say how much it will be used yet, though.

I expected Maybe an ability that heals 10% hp each turn. may sounds op but it's to compensate the los of prankster. It said increased SPattack. Maybe, perhaps, slight chance it can be descent in trick room with some new moves it may get in ORAS remake. Not the mention ORAS should have a move tutor with the shards and stuff.

If anything, it gives him a much better niche as the only Magic Bouncer that isn't weak to Dark moves, and incredible support movepool. And its also one of the few Mega Pokemon with reliable recovery. We need to see base stats before we can really say anything.

Someone was talking on another forum about Mega Sableye and made a good point. Sableye doesn't have to mega evolve until it wants to, and even if it does mega evolve, it still gets the benefit of Prankster on that turn. So it could always run something like Will-o-Wisp / Nasty Plot / Shadow Ball / Coverage, do priority wisp on first turn as it megas, then proceed to set up. Remember with Magic Bounce it doesn't really need taunt as much since mega evolving happens before anything moves. Could make for some cool mind games, at the very least.
