Greetings again, Ladies and Gentlemen. Today I ask you this question: Are Videogames an Art? I'm not speaking about Pokemon nor First Person Shooters (FPS), neither specific games. I'm speaking about All Videogames, from Old School games such as Tetris; Strategy games such as Pokemon or World of Warcraft, Age of Empire, etc; Thinking games, Dramatic games, cinematic games, modern or not, Xbox or PS3 or Nintendo, ALL OF THEM.
Are they an Art? Many say Yes, others say No. Points of view and opinions are everywhere about them. My question is: Is it an Art? With the simple definition of Art as Wikipedia says: "Any activity or product done by humans with an aesthetic or communicative purpose, by which ideas, emotions or a world view expressed by various resources". I'm asking you if Videogames are an Art? Are they, or not? Explain.
I need personal opinions, do research if you need to. This for me is very important for School and Myself [And dont you dare tell me "talking about videogames for school is a bad idea". Trust me, I got this.

I think they are. They are the product of careful thought and diligent work, meant for people's enjoyment, with styling, audience, and talent. Through it, the creators can express their thoughts and philosophies and share them with the players. No one has ever made anything without putting their emotions into it, whether it's a lightbulb or a painting. It's an interactive painting, where instead of just talking about what might happen and what the artist was thinking, you get to talk to what the artist left behind and see it unfold. Even you playing it is art. You put all your emotion to games, in some games with the main character's buddy or something dies you feel the pain. When you were younger and beat the game for the first time you felt that flow of victory in your veins.

A beautifully designed videogame invokes wonder as the fine arts do, only in a uniquely kinetic way. Because the videogame must move, it cannot offer the lapidary balance of composition that we value in painting; on the other hand, because it can move, it is a way to experience architecture, and more than that to create it, in a way which photographs or drawings can never compete. If architecture is frozen music, then a videogame is liquid architecture. Video games are art, just not in the way we would traditionally think of or perceive. Perhaps not a high art, but art nonetheless. It is true that no video game has ever been considered to be on par with any great work of art, and I believe none can be deemed as such, for now. It's a young art form.

''the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.'' By definition almost everything is art aslong it has atleast 1 person who likes it. Games are more than beauty though, it's art that you can change yourself, just like music that is what makes it superior to other ways of art. But just like every art there are people that hate it and find it blasphemy to consider it art Example: old people, always complaining about video games affecting us. Art is man's expression of his joy in labor. and if others can find joy in it it's the best kind of art, which is why games are so good cause you can find more joy in the art compared to just looking at a painting or a sculpture.

Okay the work is all done. Tomorrow I'll make the speech, but I have one last question. Does anyone wants to be quoted in? What do you mean? Like give us credit for our comments? nah, i'm good, no need to do that for me. Ask the others. More like change the "quote" - Anonymus to Skarm in your case. But I do believe I have not post my opinion about my own thread so here it is: A Videogame can be considered as an art if you welcome it with open arms. But to do that, you must first touch it, play it, feel it. When you played in your youth, you did it because it was fun, there was nothing else to do but to admire and entertain yourself with unique characters. But in the process of growing up, as you grow up, not only your perspective about video games changes but also the type of videogames. Many started with Mario, Sonic or Pokemon and continued with The last of us, Beyond Two Souls, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts etc. I can proof, most of the people who played videogames, consider it as an art. But the rest who didnt played, or were forced to play to prove it for themselves, believe it is not an art. Because they never had the will to accept it. In Conclusion: Video games can be considered as an art. But it all DEPENDS on the PLAYER and the GAME. Player such as: Dramatic or non-ignorant. The gamer who plays to only beat the game, is not considering the plot, so may believe its not an art. But for example (MINOR SPOILER ALERT): The gamer who bought and played The Last of Us and cried when Sarah died, Joel saved Ellie, Ellie and her friend got infected. That is the one who will believe Video games are an art. Games such as: Pac-man, FPS and others are rarely considered as an Art, except if were talking about artworks. However, games with plot, tension and attaching characters, are for me considered an Art. - This is all my point of view and notice I may have skipped some few points, but, Hey! If you want to dis/agree with this comment, feel free to do so.

So, I just got my Oral presentation mark about videogames as an art, the reason why I made this thread. Yeah I got a 7 out of 7. And it was sent as my final mark for the subject, soo, I did it. Thanks for the support guys, you were of great help with your quotes. Although I put them as *Anonymus* they did the job great.
Again, Thank you.
